Pros

Co-workers are generally very knowledgeable and helpful. There is a sense of team with many working groups. Healthcare benefits are great.

Cons

After suffering a health crisis while employed by Rovi, the company that purchased TiVo, I was in a position where I had to share my medical situation with my manager because the symptoms of my condition could not be concealed or hidden. Although I had been an employee for well over five years and had established strong customer relationships, always had very good reviews and was well liked and respected by my colleagues and customers, I was laid-off under the guise that my position was being eliminated. However, a position immediately opened up with the exact job description of the position I had held that was said to be eliminated. It was clear that I had been let go because of my health condition and the various symptoms I was addressing in the beginning of my health issues. Not only did I lose my income but my health coverage as well. I could not have been left in a more vulnerable position. It was unconscionable, in my opinion, the way Rovi tossed me out with the trash. I’ve been reluctant to share this information for fear of being blacklisted in the specific area of my expertise since it’s a relatively small community but now that I have been deemed fully disabled I have nothing to lose. Rovi’s ethics are nonexistent as far as I’ve seen as related to their responsibility to the disabled amongst their workforce. Of course this probably sounds like sour grapes but I only share my experience because of the blatant disregard for the rights of a protected group for which I now advocate.
