Tides Doesn't Value Staff

Pros

- Interesting and passionate colleagues - Great clients who are doing important work in the field

Cons

- Management is always using band-aid solutions rather than really changing anything; there have been at least 3 major reorgs since I started at Tides and we are still dealing with the same issues - The favorites move up through the organization (frequently into new made-up job positions) and everyone else is either stuck or subject to the shuffling around that seems rampant at Tides (shuffling of org structure, shuffling of client portfolios, shuffling of systems, etc.); promoting from within is a joke unless there is a desperate need to fill a position - Too much focus on attracting new business when there are major problems with the basic service model for current clients - Professional development is haphazard at best (non-existent at worst) - Lack of transparency about decision making which has led to a lack of trust throughout the organization - Lack of consistency in ANYTHING : Departments all have a different structure and so there is no consistency in how staff is communicated with (about department & org changes, organizational initiatives, individual and departmental goal setting, etc.), managed, trained, etc.

Disorganized, over capacity

Pros

Most staff care a lot about their work.

Cons

There is a thick layer of middle management that paralyzes decision making. Employee turnover is very high and staff are consistently over capacity. The work is very transactional, and staff aren't empowered to make decisions or be autonomous.
