Pros

Working towards good, making a difference, learning about your community, the electoral process, and how to keep your community involved.

Cons

Some of the same things you are working towards are unfortunately a part of your working experience. That said, it can be difficult to challenge long-standing systems and structures, from the inside.

Pros

Incredibly committed team that cares about social justice and is resilient through an ever-changing geo-political climate, as well as an internally evolving culture. Autonomy and empowerment to explore areas that drive incremental value for our clients and their impact, and our internal processes.

Cons

Traumas and burdens of past leadership or org culture can at times re-surface and require sensitivity and empathy to navigate. Tides is not unique among nonprofits struggling with career tracks, performance review processes, pay equity, and diversity in leadership. That doesn't make the lack of excellence easier to swallow - and does not excuse anyone from working on these areas, which the org is actively doing.
