Pros

This job was slow paced and generally low stress. I worked with only a handful of office staff later in the day. The work itself was fairly easy and straightforward Management was nice and understanding, never made a ton of demands or caused unnecessary stress. Fellow staff were friendly and courteous, easy to work with. Fun to work in an environment where a newspaper gets printed in house Potential to make commissions based on performance

Cons

Outdated and buggy CRM As the newspaper format is dying off, you end up dealing with almost exclusively angry elderly customers complaining daily about their newspaper arriving slightly late or slightly wet. Experienced people saying some pretty bad stuff over the phone to me. Most people are increasingly unwilling to re-subscribe or start a new subscription because the internet is a better, faster, and cheaper source of info. Unfortunately these subscriptions were the bulk of where your commissions came from in your pay plan, so it left you mostly with scraps. Outdated methods of management, office organization, and a low adaptability for new procedure or problem solving Most of the delivery drivers they hire are not the types of people that are dependable or provide a high quality of work. A lot of the people who deliver the paper are either children, ex-criminals, or people with substance abuse issues, all of which rarely have super reliable forms of transportation. The result of all these factors is that their issues end up becoming issues you have to deal with and solve constantly. Even constantly informing management that certain delivery people are repeatedly clearly doing more harm than good, resulted in management consistently waiting until the driver quit the company abruptly instead of firing them.
