Great atmosphere and people to work with!

Cons

Pros

Great product, great culture, great leadership. Interesting technology choices. Company is shifting to event-driven architectures which would be a good learning experience.

Cons

Becoming heavily Product-lead, with engineering often ignored in roadmap discussions. In other words "Get this feature out as fast as possible" often wins arguments vs "let's reduce our tech debt or invest in these areas for greater return later"

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am glad to hear that you are enjoying your Toast experience. Last year, we had to pivot in many ways to ensure we were best serving our customers. I am very proud of how our product and engineering teams collaborated to get these products and features over the finish line. It is disappointing to hear that you did not feel like your voice was heard, though. "One Team" is one of our core values, and it is imperative that everyone is able to share their ideas openly. I would love to better understand your feedback. Please put time on my calendar if you would like to discuss further. - Hugh Scandrett, Senior VP, Engineering

Pros

Toast offers an environment full of interesting problems and exciting innovations in our field. If you are a newer engineer, you will find mentorship all around and plenty of opportunities to test and grow your skills. If you are a more seasoned engineer, you'll be able to practice what you've learned on a scaling architecture.

Cons

Sometimes the shape-shifting of the organization can feel a little sloppy and folks will get "left behind" in awkward re-arrangements of teams. I've seen this happen quite a few times, and know first hand how jarring it can be to have a new manager suddenly without a warning. With that said, Toast is a young start-up and these events sort of come with that package. As the companies continues to mature, hopefully so will its communication process with its employees of all levels.

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. I am thrilled to see that you are enjoying your time here, and I agree that it is an exciting time to be a Toaster. Although we know moving quickly can be challenging, it is a top priority of ours to ensure that Toasters have the resources and support they need to be successful. I am sorry to hear that was not your experience, and I would encourage you to reach out to me or your PSP directly if you would like to discuss further. - Hugh Scandrett, Senior VP, Engineering
