Pros

Honestly? Everything. Toast is an incredible company to work for. Almost all of the sales team I’m on (1/4 of the country) hits or beats quota every month. You also get to sell something you can believe in. I’ve had sales jobs selling snake oil, but when I call up my customers and ask how they’re doing, ALL of them are doing significantly better with Toast. Also, the commissions are insane. You can easily clear 100k, and the top reps are making 50% more than that.

Cons

Not much really. Toast is growing very quickly, so there are small changes every now and then, but management does a great job of minimizing the effects on the sales team.

BEWARE! Not Impressed with Sales (BDR —> AE)!

Pros

Plenty of beer from the keg in the Pub!

Cons

I wouldn’t recommend joining this company as an SA/BDR (or AE) for a few reasons: - Compensation isn’t generous compared to many other tech companies in Boston! Side note for AE’s - Toast recently “experimented” with shrinking territory sizes without telling AE’s or even their managers. Toast brags about how amazing its culture is, but secretly cheating employees of their hard work is unacceptable. If you’re alright with being a lab rat and not being able to make rent or buy groceries, Toast is the place for you! - A real “frat bro” culture - if you’re not into that, good luck! - Any concerns aren’t addressed seriously by management! Also, lots of the BDR managers are former BDR’s who only held the job for one year. One year isn’t long enough to develop “world class” management skills. - Looking to move into a role after this position - compensation isn’t good for internal hires. Moreover, Toast is all about hiring AE’s from outside the company. BDR’s turned AE’s haven’t been performing well for the most part. Good luck getting promoted to AE, spots for internal hires are limited!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I’m sorry to hear that we let you down with your overall Toast experience. With hypergrowth comes a lot of change. We’ve been working really hard to continue innovating and iterating on our processes, and I’m sorry if this has made you feel like a “lab rat.” I, along with the rest of sales leadership, care deeply about the team’s growth and development, which is why we’ve continued to invest in onboarding, training, and internal mobility offerings. We’re also working hard to make sure that the culture across the sales org is inclusive of everyone. While we do offer a variety of free snacks and beverages to all employees, drinking is by no means an expectation for socialization. I’m always open to hearing feedback on ways that we can continue improving the Toast experience. If you feel comfortable sharing more information, I welcome you to reach out to me directly on LinkedIn or via email. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. - Aman Narang, President & Co-Founder

Pros

If you want to be in the movie "Mean girls", and only wear pink on Wednesdays and say "you can't sit with us at lunch" this company is for you! Frat culture and sorority culture with huge lack of professionalism. Drinking is a must to fit in. If you do not drink, you will be passive aggressively shamed as "not cool". Ageism is prevalent here. If you are over the age of 25, you are "old" and "not cool". You will be shunned from your team in a silent passive aggressive way that doesn't get anyone doing the shaming in trouble. You feel like you are pledging Zi Beta Pi at Toast for class of 2019 and the pledge master doesn't care about how smart you are; they care about how popular you are. This is not what "tech" is supposed to be about. Complete culture miss.

Cons

This is the worst company to work for. The pay is extremely low compared to market rate. The amount of work is ridiculously high. According to Toast, work life balance consists of drinking free beer in the pub and attending drinking parties sponsored by the company. The company disregards diversity (people who do not drink), and does not give back in ways a tradition employer does (401k match has a vesting cliff for employer contribution matches). Less parties please, and put the money into the "benefits" you say you offer.

I appreciate you leaving your feedback, although I’m disappointed to read about your experience. Your review indicates that you’re a former employee, so I’m unsure of when you left Toast, but based on your feedback, it sounds like it was quite a while ago. Let me tell you about our team now. The recruiting team has doubled in size over the past year and we’re proud to welcome teammates at all stages of their careers and lives to our team. We’ve also made significant upgrades to our benefits program this year, so in addition to unlimited PTO and our sabbatical program, we’ve enhanced our health insurance offerings, improved our parental leave policy and added a fitness reimbursement policy. Similar to many other tech companies, we do offer a variety of free snacks and beverages to all employees, with the expectation that our employees will act responsibly. Our employee events are a mix of social gatherings, often times family friendly , volunteer opportunities, and learning opportunities. Again, I apologize that you had such a negative experience at Toast. If you’re open to it, I’d be happy to connect so that you can share additional feedback. Wishing you the best in your new opportunity. Thanks, Mike
