Pros

Good pay, decent benefits, good work schedule

Cons

The office culture is much to be desired here in Malta. If you are not part of the clique here your chances of advancement are slim to none. Promotion and job opportunity seems to be based on how many beers you have with the managers after work. Seems to be a lot of people jumping ship here in Malta going to different places around the company. Managers here will definitely hold a grudge and they just can't seem to let minor mistakes go, especially around review time, gives them something negative to put on your review. You can bust your rear end all you want here unless you are sucking up to management you are going no where. Managers attitude places a lot of stress on FE's. FE's are afraid to do the work in fear of what will come down the line. You can get an atta boy one day and be written up for something really small the next. Some managers were put in this office to get them away from the rest of the company.

Pros

-Comfortable working environment -Free lunch -Free accommodation -Nice colleagues -Over time pay(most of companies in Taiwan don't pay for OT)

Cons

-Most of managers are Japanese, promotion is limited. -Japanese speaking and listening are required, otherwise engineers have to take long time to communicate. -Limited job rotation, insufficient training for engineer(most of training is on job training).

Good job despite flaws

Pros

Good pay. Good Job. A good semiconductor industry experience.

Cons

Procedures are difficult to get a hold of. Thrown in the first day with no prior training. Going to training in Austin is hit or miss. I was in the job for well over a year before I was considered for a training class. At this point I had a lot of experience on the tools. Knowing ANY information before being thrown in would have been extremely helpful. And since I have to do everything why can I not have procedures without a torturous search or without having to beg other employees to see a procedure? I had a problem with a coworker but said nothing for a very long time because I assumed I would not be taken seriously or that the boss wouldn't really do anything. When I finally did mention it because my boss was questioning my performance (I had to become completely withdrawn to avoid the unpleasant person) and I had to bring it up. I was then looked at by management differently and I was let go within 6 months. What I was let go for was nothing different than what any other employee there did. (Including management.)
