Pros

I enjoyed the co-workers i had a trace3. The office locations were nice and generally everyone was friendly. non-accrual (unlimited) PTO

Cons

With the decline of hardware sales the company is trying to create a services presence in the market. Unfortunately when the sales teams are not meeting numbers they will not push services since its a harder sale and the GP isn't clear. This causes the services teams to be in a state of flux. Then with the lack of services sales they bench or cut their PS team to help manage cost. With a weakened and benched PS team when business does have an uptick they are consistently having to sub out work because they don't want to pay to keep people on staff. The sales teams when they do sell a services engagement have the final say of how it gets charged to the customer. If they massively under bid hours on a project it's not the sales team that takes the hit but the PS org which causes more instability due to rising costs. Management turnover is an issue, new management doesn't want to honnor what old ones put in place even if it's in writing (they will find a loop hole) Questionable ethics from some org's of the company Insurance costs alot if you want anything other than a HSA since the company doesn't want to contribute much to their PPO option No 401k match

Pros

Great environment with the ability to work on cutting edge solutions.

Cons

Engineers are dedicated to existing teams, making it hard for new employees to build a business other than "pushing boxes."

Pros

Some of the best people I've ever worked with. Always felt like someone had my back, although it was never middle or upper management. Training and keeping your skill set relevant is highly encouraged and almost always available. If you're doing your job and billing hours, you're unlikely to be messed with. If you like to work hard and party hard, this is the company for you.

Cons

After the bottom dropped out of Trace3's bread and butter, the hardware market, management wisely decided to shift to services. Unfortunately the up-front sales team training to shift to such a strategy was lacking, to say the least. Almost nobody knows how to sell something that doesn't come in a cardboard box (through no fault of their own, the training just isn't there), and it forced a massive engineering layoff. This, after daily assurances that the company was on the right track and the future was blazingly bright. (no, I wasn't one of the layoffs, so this isn't sour grapes.) Trace3 is hemorrhaging cash when they should be owning the market. There's so much talent there, it's a shame that they're not doing better than they are. I hope Trace3 can turn things around, but until they do it's not a place I'd recommend if you're looking for stable employment. On the other hand, if you're ok with the possibility of being laid off next week, you'll learn a lot here and make some great professional relationships.
