Pros

-Great office location -Will teach you the basics of the sales process, project management and client management -Work with prominent clients -Ability to travel and experience other cultures -Made lifelong friends This job prepared me for any experience good or bad

Cons

Here's why this job prepared me for any experience. Because no company should be run this way. It's with a heavy heart that I write this as the company is very successful... -No training whatsoever (I know this because I was asked to coordinate training sessions as a salesperson) -Culture is a frat house -No structure for promotions (nothing is written down) and raises -Nasty emails and passive aggressive discussions are the norm -I was consistently talked down to even though I am a fully functioning adult that is relatively intelligent -Senior managers are abused by the C-suite (not Liz) cursing and horrendous emails- you can google it and see what I'm talking about -The top managers are college friends of the CEO, they talk about earning their spots but were in the right place at the right time -Everyone is afraid of the top management team and do whatever they say- there are no checks and balances -I literally had thousands of dollars in commission taken out of my pocket because of "splits" that senior management thought others deserved. Keep in mind none of these rules are in writing in your sales plan. They just default to people who are the favorites -I received about 500 emails a day and was screamed at when I missed reading one of them that pertained to a training seminar I missed. -The headquarters in New York is a battleground- CEOs are suing each other -Pyramid scheme- the people at the top make a cut off of your commission. -If you start as a higher level sales person you immediately are put on a draw. NO GRACE PERIOD. Even though everyone knows that the translation industry has a long sales cycle. I know people (and personally experienced it myself) that were in hole for over a year.

Pros

my team was very young, helpful and easy to talk to, opportunities to travel, casual workspace, insights into an interesting industry.

Cons

micromanagement by all levels of management, unclear and different messages given by different levels of management, forced to use private cell phone and laptop (+internet) for company work, inflexible work times, poor salary negotiation, very low base salary, unclear how to reach bonus payments (initial bonuses are actually a group effort), no adaptation to local market, huge amounts of cold calling, huge amounts of time spent printing/stuffing envelopes

Pros

Some of the people you meet are great because when they can, they hire really talented people and there are lots of offices all over the world. When you first interview, everyone puts on a positive face and tries to make it seem like this company is wonderful, even though most people can't stand it.

Cons

EVERYTHING else. This company and the leaders are greedy sales people. If they act like they care about you, it's only because they want to earn more money from you doing their work because they get a cut of everyone's commission. There is no work life balance because they expect work to be your life but you don't get paid for it. There are NO raises and although they are constantly telling people that you can earn big bucks if you work for it, that only applies if you are willing to give up your life or if you happen to be picked as someone's favorite and go along with exactly everything they tell you.
