Don't Expect More than What You're Getting Into

Pros

Because the teams are divided by job function instead of clients you are it pushes you to learn and master technical skills, such as Excel, SQL, data reporting, to name a few. Because of the small size of the office/teams you are put right in the trenches to resolve whatever issues arise

Cons

This isn't a place where I would ever think to build a career. Great place to star out because you're put right in the thick of things and need to resolve issues that at bigger company other departments would take care of. However, there really isn't a sense of pride working at Transamerica. Only a transitional place to learn what you need to but you need to make sure to move on.

Upper level management screw up causes a ripple effect.

Pros

Great people working in the trenches.

Cons

Rebuilding credibility with the distribution will be the company’s greatest challenge. Brokers no longer trust leadership. No accountability of upper level leadership when they screw up.

Cultural change

Pros

Part of a large global organization (Aegon). There are a lot of good people still working there who care about the comapny

Cons

There are going through organizational restructuring which has led to turmoil. They've gone from a distributed entrepreneurial model to a centralized "large company" model. There are many in leadership positions that don't know how to operate in a large company. Opportunities are most plentiful in Cedar Rapids Iowa and it still quite a bit depends on having the right internal connections. It used to be a company that cares about it's employees but now no longer values them.
