Pros

The therapists are great, and it's a great way to get a foot in the door of working in behavioral health, either direct care or support/administration--if you can survive the cultural toxicity or general ineptitude of the male middle management, you can do anything. Great place to churn away while you wait to get accepted into grad school. Endless fodder for future therapy sessions.

Cons

Working within the non-profit sector, particularly in behavioral health and the foster care system, poses unique challenges that demand some degree of personal sacrifice--martyrdom is a rewarded trait in this industry, at all levels. Other reviews describe this line of work as 'rewarding,' and while it certainly aligns with the fulfillment of serving a higher purpose, it often falls short in terms of personal benefits for employees at Trillium. Trillium's workforce relies heavily on a revolving door of young, college-educated individuals full of optimism but lacking in experience. While camaraderie can develop quickly within teams, so too can cliques. Middle and upper management often display a disingenuous attitude towards those who don't seamlessly integrate into the Trillium culture, dismissing them as unfit for the job. However, with adequate support and opportunities for decompression, success is attainable for anyone within a consistent team environment. Working in any position at Trillium will come with challenges, and unfortunately, efforts to voice dissent or initiate systemic change are met with overwhelming dismissiveness from supervisors and long-standing staff. Trillium's organizational structure appears resistant to meaningful growth, fostering an environment that discourages long-term investment from employees. The company seems to thrive on high turnover rates among direct care labor while favoring compliant yes-persons in upper management. Instances of bullying, particularly from older female coworkers and supervisors, were distressingly common, with even HR complicit in maintaining a toxic workplace culture. Personal experiences of harassment, such as comments on appearance or performance reviews that served more as an opportunity to critique personality, were met with indifference by HR, citing tenure as justification for such behavior. My decision to leave Trillium was motivated by the overwhelmingly negative environment perpetuated by certain individuals rather than the nature of the work itself. The permissive attitude towards abusive behavior within the organization, both in inpatient and outpatient programs, was deeply troubling. Trillium is a place where the complaints of former employees 15 years ago will match the complaint of employees today--there is no incentive for improvement, so there will be no improvement. While negative reviews may not dissuade potential employees, it's crucial for leadership to recognize the widespread discontent among past and present staff across all departments.
