Pros

Trimble has some of the most talented developers I've ever worked with. They provide market level salaries and excellent benefits.

Cons

Management is terrible and often has expectations that are out of touch with reality. Upper management gets their positions based on who they know, rather than what they know, and usually have no idea about the technologies they are supposed to be managing. Zero upward mobility. The only way to advance is to apply for another position in a different division of the company.. Miniscule annual raises (merit based raise tops out at 1.75%).. Basically, expect to stay in the same position at the same rate of pay until you leave.

Great people, below average pay

Pros

My coworkers were all great people, and the Trimble building in Westminster is beautiful. The products are interesting, and it's possible to gain experience in many different technologies.

Cons

The pay was below average, and there were no indications from an individual contributor level that market research was done to set pay ranges. Efforts were only made to bring pay up to market levels when employees received an offer from another company.

Good overall with big downside

Pros

Generally great coworkers, laid back atmosphere, ongoing challenges of acquisitions keeps things from getting slow

Cons

Layoffs are a horrible surprise. It doesn't matter the time you've been employed there, how hard you work, or how valued you are by your managers. It comes from somewhere up top. Then everyone in your group is left trying to pick up the pieces and figure out how to do your job. You have to get a great starting pay, or you'll never get more. There's in internal rule where you can't switch or get promoted to a different group and accept more than a 5% raise. If a job is advertised for making $100k a year, and apply when you make 50k a year, you are only eligible for a 5% pay increase. It's supposedly to prevent "internal bidding." It really runs as several different companies instead of getting blended.
