Great potential, big downfalls

Pros

The people. Teams generally work well together. There are a lot of talented people. Casual dress. Can sometimes work from home. There's room for the company to change with the right people in charge.

Cons

Complete lack of accountability. There are rarely consequences for poor performance or immature behavior. Career growth is non-existent. It's a fight to be fairly compensated. There is also a lack of transparency around opportunities except for some fluff once a quarter. There is a struggle to adapt to modern ideologies of how to build software and best practices. Antiquated policies that will create issues in retaining talent.

Pros

Note that I worked in the military division (Trimble Military and Advanced Systems - TMAS), which is a wholly owned subsidiary. However, I'll make comments about the general company as well. Starred Ratings below are more about TMAS. 1) The CEO of Trimble is a number cruncher, so he's always looking out for the company's bottom line. 2) The benefits are decent 3) The salaries are competitive 4) The general company has a good career tracking / employee review system 5) At TMAS, the jobs are very stable. 6) At TMAS, you get a small company environment, even though the general company has thousands of employees 7) At TMAS, leadership encourages a good work-life balance. 8) Management at TMAS is open to ideas that can improve processes 9) Management at TMAS "has your back" when conflicts arise with outside agencies.

Cons

1) As I said above, benefits are decent, but not competitive with top companies in this area 2) TMAS should invest more in automation of software testing. 3) It's a very flat organization., so not a lot of variety in positions. 4) You need to have patience and confidence to succeed at TMAS. 5) Could use improvement in the area of "on-boarding" and training of new employees. 7) TMAS does not use the Trimble career tracking / employee review system
