Pros

The team exceeds expectations when it comes to Truefit's values of being principled, collaborative, empowering, and serving the common good. The culture is unbelievable and this is definitely one of the best places to work in Pittsburgh. The projects we get to work on are innovative, fun and truly utilizing technology so that humans can flourish. The fact that we are a solutions organization means we get to apply the newest technologies and continually leverage new learnings to current projects. Having design, research and engineering under one umbrella is a unique proposition and appears to serve clients really well. It is exciting to see that this is very unique in this region. We just moved into a brand new space in the Union Trust Building and I would not hesitate to say that we have one of the best workspaces in Pittsburgh now. It is an open plan and supports the flat organization and culture that management models. You will find the CEO sitting right in the middle of the floor, easily accessible and open to answering questions most of the day. You are just as likely to see him helping put together the furniture in the conference room as much as you would see him in a meeting with a customer or with other team members. We have had a lot of transition in the past few years but now we are not only seeing a number of early stage startups choose to work with us but more mid-to-large size enterprise organizations are selecting us as a product development partner. The company does a lot for employees and for a smaller organization the health benefits are top-notch. Most large organizations cannot match the health insurance plan with no cost to employees (other than a modest deductible).

Cons

There are no big downsides but there can be some cons that go along with the pros. Being principled and a solutions organization sometimes means that we work on lower margin passion projects with fun startups that could run out of funds mid project. These projects do fit the profile and culture of the organization well. It seems like a 50/50 startup to enterprise project ratio is ideal.

Growth and change causing a level of chaos. Culture of empowerment leaves some things under-managed. Difficulty balancing client projects with internal improvements.
