Pros
Trupanion is incredibly people focused and wants their team members to succeed both personally and professionally. Professionally I have been blessed by as well as seen for others how Trupanion works to help people move forward in their careers. Personally, I've been given opportunities and been encouraged to work on skills that better me as a person that also support my work. In addition to support for a successful career, in my experience I've always had incredible support when life happens outside of work and I've needed some flexibility. I've been cared for more by Trupanion as an employer, and even more specifically by the 4 different managers I've had in my career at Trupanion than anywhere else. Trupanion does what's right for pets. It's not about making a buck. It truly is about helping pets get the best veterinary care, just as the mission states, and doing it morally and ethically. Every decision is filtered through the lens of what's best for pets, members, hospitals, and team members. Although it's sometimes hard to understand from the outside why we do what we do in some instances, working here I absolutely have peace of mind that we're doing it right. The environment of people is hardworking as well as fun. We aim high and work hard and are also encouraged to have fun and not always take ourselves too seriously. And... pets! What more do you need? The environment is very accepting I can be me, 100%, without fear of being judged or mocked, and that allows me to be the best version of myself and do my best work. Benefits. I add these last because they truly are the last thing that came to mind as a pro to working at Trupanion even though they are a HUGE pro. I'm blown away at how much money Trupanion is willing to spend to make sure I have amazing benefits. I'm able to get the medical care I need, take the PTO and leave that I want and need (including bereavement for pets and family), I have life insurance, the opportunity to bonus, I get local discounts, and although I don't need it yet, daycare is offered. I'm so grateful for our benefits at Trupanion. I truly feel taken care of as an individual and these are not luxuries I would have access to without Trupanion.
Cons
Trupanion is a fast-moving, growing company. This is a pro. The con to this is that Trupanion is a fast-moving, growing company and this sometimes feels to me like putting the cart before the horse, jumping before you know how deep the water is, or turning before looking. This mostly applies to internal functions and occasionally applies to decisons made that affect pets, members, and hospitals. Trupanion has gotten better at watching where we step and as a whole needs to continue to work on internal communication (which we are, woohoo!) to improve how we move forward as cohesive teams rather than a domino affect.
