      Pros

      Outstanding people, best state agency to work for in Texas. Which means, in the Country. Because Texas. Seriously, this agency does covers more highway miles more effectively, efficiently, and with fewer people and resources than any other top-tier DOT in the U.S.

      Cons

      Seeking effective leaders for all these great folks. Inherent tension between HQ and outlying Districts can be counterproductive and add risk. Beholden to a legislature distrustful of state government (sometimes warranted, often not), so we get blamed for the ethical and management failings of other agencies.

      Very interesting place to work. There are a lot of really smart people here who really care about what they do.

      Cons

      Management need to look at what's best for the state and not just what will save them money.
