Pros

Great work-life balance and the majority of employees are dedicated to do the best they know how.

Cons

Not as in tune with private-sector business principles as one would hope.

Pros

Good opportunities depending on the area and office. Telework option is helpful and the pay is fairly good.

Cons

Not much recognition or support from managers. Agency culture is somewhat disconcerting before and after the congressional hearings. I don't see how much longer the agency can continue; no value for the taxpayers.

Pros

Ability to work at home some or all of the time.

Cons

Lack of training/processes for teleworkers. Everything is strictly on-the-job training. That would be OK as long as you are not thrown right in to fend for yourself and your mentor/trainer is not busy doing his/her own workload. Too much concentration on making money for GSA instead of making sure the personnel are taken care of. It feels like big corporate America (a money-making machine instead of governance and getting the best deal for everyone involved). Management is too cheap to pay for mileage when you travel outside your zip code. When you have to travel in order to get your ID card or get it updated or return equipment/documents, you have to use your own gas/resources in order to get the items to a drop point. IT support and all the various systems support you need are different phone calls. There's a couple clunky central Help Desks that may take several calls or transfers until you get to the appropriate person/office. Takes too long for GSA to update your personnel files. VERY SLOW. People assigned over you don't have a clue how all the software works and don't have a clue what your modules look like/processes you have to go through unless they have had the same job. If GSA were to concentrate more on hiring from within, that would remedy much of the problem.
