Great way into federal service without having to go through competitive hiring

Cons

No GS rating makes it difficult to compare to other federal jobs May be FEHB or Marketplace healthcare, so ask first.

Pros

Working directly with constituents to help alleviate issues with a federal or state agency. Get to staff the boss during town halls and various other outreach events. Meet incredible people and visit really unique parts of your state.

Cons

After a year, you have learned everything you need to. Lacking in job mobility. No flexibility when it comes to desired regional office you would like to work out of. Poor pay and disorganized management leads to often mundane and chaotic days.
