Sales are often hampered by internal politics with distribution partners. Be ready to be harassed and threatened again and again and again by slimeball distributors all for and extra 1% on an order they did zero work on.
Some sales guys unfortunately have large territories while others cover two small states which can put a huge discrepancy between sales dollars within the sales team. All sales guys work a 70 hour work week and you can tell it takes a toll on some of the folks here. Many spend 3+nights a week on the road. Expect to put 1000-1500 miles a week on your company car. The phone never stops ringing and distribution will call you all hours of the night, weekend, holidays etc. for something they claim to be an "emergency". Be prepared to lay in bed at night on your phone filing away the 1150+ emails you get every day or else you will get swamped quickly. Three days on vacation puts you 2 weeks behind on all of your numbers. Sales commission structure is based on growth so if you only hit 99% of your yearly budget then be prepared to lose $50-$80k in money that year.
I can't speak for inside sales folks but from what I hear it ranges from terrible to just slightly bearable. I wouldn't want to do it, that's for sure.
