Pros

My boss is great. Some of my co-workers are great.

Cons

Overall, too WMA focused. God help you if you need HR assistance, all self service and no one has a clue. Very little chance of advancement unless you are one of chosen few. A heartless organization.

Pros

Progressive approach to infrastructure and software. Many companies are stuck in the past, keeping old systems alive even though they are outdated and problematic. UBS is at least trying to remain current. Or they were when last I was there.

Cons

Some amazingly bad middle managers with no regard for employees personal lives. If you get one of them expect to work until at least 7PM every day as well as be on call 24/7. Telecommuting is up to the individual managers are an all to great percentage of them are iron-fisted micro-managers so they do not allow it at all. Their approach to systems and software is at odds with their approach to people. I would not work there again.

Pros

I will say that the team I worked with was outstanding, and that my direct management was outstanding, given the financial crisis and other outside pressures. I am still close friends with members of that team today.

Cons

Politics at UBS, at least from the IT side of the house, are rampant. From year end evaluations and promotions to vendor selections, decisions took too long and were always under political scrutiny. Also, its takes forever for anything to get done. The place is drowning in process. If you wanted anything to get done, you were better off doing it yourself. That in turn created a considerable amount of frustration.
