As an Instructor I'm allowed a great deal of independence to construct my course independently based on my education and professional experiences.

Cons

A con of independence is that Instructors really start with a blank page. Berkeley doesn't assist in anyway with suggesting sources or an outline for developing content, suggesting textbooks, developing the course the outline, crafting in-class exercises, homework or anything at all. The pay is very low, but I think that's consistent with other schools.
