Pros

Davis does very cool research. If you are interested in fields like animal behavior, agriculture, etc, you will find it very exciting here. Other fields are strong too. Inter library loans are easy and convenient. It is a great platform if you are early in your career and want to gain extra skills and experiences.

Cons

Depending on your department, management can be chaos.

Pros

The teaching assistant union (UAW 2865) got us a great contract, but it took several years to negotiate with the administration. The position includes much better health insurance than it used to, now that they are complying with the ACA. They used to have a $10K yearly cap.

Cons

They keep increasing class sizes which lowers the quality of students' education. I have more students to teach, more papers to grade, and less time to give individual attention.

Pros

Flexible scheduling. Bi-Weekly deposit. Located on campus. Straightforward job.

Cons

No upward mobility as a student. Menial work here and there. Not good for people who seek a challenge. Typical short term job as a full time student.
