Pros

Health insurance and retirement benefits are exceptional. Stable employment after probationary period. Family friendly. There are good opportunities to move around within the UC system since it seems that internal applicants have priority over the general population.

Cons

It takes some paper pushing effort to be considered for a salary increase based on merit. Automatic raises are rare. Parking for on campus jobs can be a drag if you don't like to walk.

Campus Tour Guide

Pros

Met some of the greatest people, you will undeniably increase your speaking skills as a tour guide and will get to meet a plethora of people along the way. Your co workers are pretty much the people that keep you sane in this work. Hours are pretty flexible.

Cons

The pay is !@#$, as a tour guide you get paid basically minimum wage. On days that you are working there will be times where you will walk and talk for about 3-4 hours straight . super exhausting more so because there is no organization regarding how many tours may go out per time frame. This position has a lot of times when it becomes very taxing on you and may be somewhat of a pain. The most any "tour guide will make is 8.50" and raises only happen rarely. Also if you are an ambassador you learn more content and are more viable for tours but get paid just as much as someone that only has to learn one script. Worked there for quite a few years and was still paid the same.
