Pros

Most of the people who work at UCR are interesting, friendly, and committed. A lot depends on who your boss is, but most are very flexible and accommodating, and generally people who do a good job get recognized (though perhaps not monetarily). Leadership has generally been pretty sensible, at least in the post-Chancellor-Cordova era. Great benefits, too.

Cons

You probably won't make as much at UCR as at a private company, particularly if you're hired immediately after graduating. Less-qualified people who are brought in from the outside will make more than people who have been around a long time; sometimes the only way to get a raise is to leave.

Pros

There are many smart people around. one can always learn new things if given opportunities. weather is fine. staff are good. enthusiastic students around.

Cons

some labs are very isolated. boss had very bad organization skill and always tried to micro manipulate things. insane work load. no maternity leave.
