Pros

I had a great experience in graduate school. My advisor supported me financially via connecting me with teaching opportunities and research assistantships. I learned a lot. Tuition was paid for.

Cons

The pay is not very good. I think most graduate students would be hard pressed to be able to pay for rent in a single-bedroom or studio apartment, however, if you share housing in a rented house, then you can scrape by without student loans.

Pros

The amount that you are paid depends on how well funded the lab is. But having the opportunity to work in laboratory academia is good experience.

Cons

Wish I got more hours.
