Pros

You get to work with smart people, support education, work on a beautiful campus, and get decent benefits. In addition, the staff are hard-working and supportive of each other.

Cons

The UC system and UCSC are run by faculty who in a lot of cases do not understand the reality of what it takes to make a seemingly simple task happen. They are cutting more and more staff positions while taking on more students and faculty. Meanwhile, the faculty don't have enough support because the staff are stretched so thinly.

Pros

- The campus is beautiful - The advising community is very friendly and willing to help and answer questions

Cons

- The segmented nature of the advising can be difficult to navigate at times (college advising being separate from major advising) - Technological infrastructure not really the greatest on the advising tools side. - Cost of living in Santa Cruz is simply unaffordable with the wage of an academic advisor alone.
