Pros

Pay is relatively good, benefits were excellent, reputable name to have on resume.

Cons

Unfair treatment of employees, very bureaucratic, places value on corporate issues before patient care and employee appreciation. It's a sad reality when management requires a pregnant employee to file for disability in order for the employee to have a lunch break before 4:30pm (after having my morning break at 9:00am, and yes, the unit was able to allott a reasonable break time, there was rarely good reason for it barring emergencies). What's more, I was asked for a doctor's note regarding another pregnancy circumstance that required me to avoid working three days in a row and upon handing in the doctor's note I was told this, too, requires filing for disability. I had never been scheduled for three shifts in a row prior to this and was scheduled this way after this note from my doctor. On another occasion our clock in machine was broken and we were instructed to send our check-in times to the coordinator via e-mail. Two months later I was given a warning because I had four instances of not clocking in or out (remember, our machine was broken and we were instructed to e-mail our payroll coordinator when we got onto the unit). The unit management also had favorites based on arbitrary rules (my observation was that those who were friends with the charges/schedulers and those who didn't bring up the unethical practices got favored). The "employee of the month" and scheduling benefits were consistently given to the favorites rather than how it was supposed to rotate for ALL STAFF. It was a very "high school" experience, overall. Nobody should have to file for disability to have a reason to have lunch at a reasonable time and nobody should have to feel devalued and looked over because they aren't part of the inner circle/cliques.
