Pros

After everything that occurred with my role at UCLA School of Dentistry, the only "pros" I can really think of are the networking opportunities within the school through different trainings.

Cons

This job was by far the worst I have had in my career. The management was disastrous and I was a casualty to the apparent revolving door in my department. Upon being hired, I was thrown into responsibilities (which I don't mind), but was never given the time to truly LEARN how to do my job. I was expected to clean up the messes of two past employees and given a workload that was far beyond what I could accomplish in a 40 hour week. Despite having a great performance review for my first few months, I was released due to "performance issues." In reality, another employee on my team quit and I was given almost all of her work duties, including any of her long-term unfinished tasks. I was asked only three days after she quit why these tasks were not complete yet (things like program budgets or tasks that I did not yet know HOW to do). When I told my manager that I was staying up late to try and catch up on the other employees work, she completely gaslit me saying that I did not receive all of her work. While another employee did have one of the former employees projects, I had upwards of 8 (I confirmed this with the former employee). Additionally, another employee on my team lied to my boss about an interaction we had (and I believe an additional interaction). My boss never came back to confirm these details with me and took the other employees word even though I had proof. The mismanagement was insane and no one knew what they were doing. Some of the tasks I inherited from other employees were POs that were almost a YEAR old. I was getting pressure for them not being completed and was faulted for them when in reality these overdue payments were a reflection of a serious management issue (not to mention handling LATE POs was not part of my training). To summarize, my experience was characterized by blame shifting by my boss and one other employee. I became the scapegoat for everyone's failed tasks and busywork. I would not suggest working here unless you are ready to be a yes-man and a people pleaser. As soon as I stood up for myself, I was released from my role. And while I cannot say I was a PERFECT employee (of course I made mistakes in my new role), I have never seen small mistakes handled by management in such an escalated way. One of the final nails in the coffin for my termination (I believe) was that an order of folders that I ordered were delivered to another office on campus. Since we needed them the next day, I offered to pick up some at Office Depot and initiate a return of the other package. Easy solution. But the other employee exaggerated this "failure" by telling me another employee was going to have to drive to Encino to pick up folders and then lied to my boss insinuating that I had no plan to get the folders. My boss sent me an email accusing me of leaving my coworker in the lurch.

Competitive salary (especially after our last bump), great coworkers, great boss.

Cons

Library HR was difficult (though hopefully improving), bureaucracy made it hard to make changes sometimes
