Quite a Mixed Experience

Pros

Surprisingly dynamic and energized environment, despite the infamous bureaucracy of the UN Motivated, altruistic colleagues Diverse, multilingual office

Cons

Limited resources mean personnel can be overworked, and stress at times sours the office dynamic and relationships You have to get lucky with a manager - some will invest in you and take an interest in your advancement, others will treat junior people as disposable Very limited opportunities for younger employees, and of course the consultancy system leaves much to be desired

Pros

It's mission is meaningful(eradicating poverty).

Cons

Huge disparities in terms of benefits, salaries and recognition of work among national and international staff. This needs to change across all UN agencies.
