Pros

As with most UN agencies, the access and actual work can be very exciting. This is true especially in countries where UN has a good relationship with the government.

Cons

Dated vision, nepotism, favor-trading, lack of professionalism, lack of strategic vision.

Pros

Interesting work that can hopefully help people, good salary and benefits.

Cons

The organization can be slow and bureaucratic, but this is highly dependent on the management at that particular time (it rotates every 3 years or so). Furthermore, in developing countries it can be difficult to deal with the counterpart (usually Government), but that (and the ensuing frustration) is part of the challenge.
