Pros

Got along with most of my coworkers and the pay wasn't too bad.

Cons

Everything else. That place is so mismanaged and there is wayyyy to much stuff that gets swept under the rug. Ive worked in several nursing homes over the years and have never had to move as much as I did there. Which is saying alot considering it was staffed well and a small nursing home to begin with. I've moved more in 8 hours with 10 residents on my run that I have working 12-16 hours somewhere else with 15-20 residents. It's insane. And to top it off, you are not allowed to sit and breathe for a minute, ever. The only break room is upstairs down a super long hallway- not possible to run up there to grab a sip of water when you're thirsty. And management made no accommodations to even give staff easier access to drinks.

Pros

Pto is good. Flexible work times and locations

Cons

You have to use their doctors ONLY under your insurance and have to jump many hurdles if they don’t offer the service to get it covered. Micromanaging bosses to the point where you don’t even feel like a capable human. Ever since i left and went to a much higher role elsewhere, i have flourished. Being brought into the office to be talked to about accidentally forgetting to capitalize something in excel is a pathetic joke looking back on it. My boss said numerous racially and sexually charged statements. Would gossip about everyone who worked in or visited the office. Would tell subordinates personal information about their coworkers shared with him in private. Entire team is White and it is very clear why this manager has chosen to keep it that way from his statements behind closed doors. Flat out told us to lie if anyone contacted HR about something we did (no doubt in reference to a situation he found himself in). Union busting is rampant. Future faking with raises and career opportunities. Every “benefit” they talk about like employing veterans or tuition reimbursement comes with the stipulation that you sign a contract to work with them for an extended period of time, which is not the standard at other hospital systems in the area. Chronically understaffed (on purpose) so you will be expected to work nonstop with no breathing room in between tasks. Insultingly under paid. Coworkers often pitted against one another. Do not feel like you can be open about your concerns about the company or you will be handled by upper management.

Pros

Good people and co-workers. People who truly care about patients and families. Moderate benefits package commensurate with other similar employers in the region.

Cons

UPMC executive leadership does not value nursing. As such, they do not value quality patient outcomes and experiences. As the CEO said in the onboarding training, they are striving to be the "Amazon of Healthcare". This is referring to a focus on reputation-building medical breakthroughs and rapid expansion of the corporate brand. These come at the cost of taking good care of the average patient and the average employee. Very poor career ladder and pay scale. Minimal opportunity for nurse progression.
