Pros

Benefits, 6 month reviews, the people (most of them) I would say overall it was a decent job if you are able to manage the people around you. Where I worked, we needed to have the equipment ready to pick up the patients and in many cases the nurses didnt have the patient or paperwork ready to go. This would make other transporters madd but it didnt bother me most of the time since I knew they can get extremely swamped with patients. If you get to know the nurses, the HUC's (nurse station secretaries) and develop at least a courteous relationship with them your job will go much smoother. Tip: remember everyone's name, make a conscious effort to remember all names, make it a game if you have to but DO IT! this will help your life in general but it makes the job easier and lowers stress Don't criticize or complain. you don't know what it is to walk in someone elses shoes, so even if you think you could have done a better job, you don't know what all is going on behind the scenes. Smile. the main goal of this job is to move patients from A to B but you wouldn't believe how much someone appreciates someone to talk to when they are on their way into surgery. You will meet some of the kindest people at this job. from the Nurses to patients to housekeepers to doctors. But, you will also see nasty people that have been jaded from their experience working at a hospital. Shake them off, don't become one, learn to forget these experiences. Lifes sucks sometimes but just imagine what it may be like to be some of the patients you will meet, suffering and in pain. So someone didn't do their job, or is having a bad bad day and taking it out on you, GET OVER IT! People hold onto these bad experience like a diamond the size of a baseball, let it go, it's really not worth it. Go pick up the next patient.

Cons

for my job, there was too many hands in the process of what needed to be done. It was like the game telephone, and sometimes down the line people wouldn't get the information or it was the wrong information. But I was able to use this to my advantage in some cases.

Pros

UPMC does want to provide good patient care. There are a lot of cutting edge technologies and practices in use. Opportunity to learn and advance.

Cons

Doing the right thing is not a priority; Employees are not valued, UPMC is a non profit but is not guided by doing the right thing for the community. Seems to be driven by the ego's of senior management.

Pros

Made some good friends and learned a lot, like how to be more miserable

Cons

Most of mercy is a problem. High turnover, low morale, complete lack of respect for nonproviders. Staff is lied to and taken advantage of and environment is very political
