Stability, stability, stability. Once you're in, you're set. It's almost impossible to get fired from this job, which is good and bad--good because I know even in an unstable ecomomy, I will have a job. Bad because there are people here who don't cut it.
Cons
Poor managers, and sometimes poor employees. Because the USAF doesn't pay as highly as "industry," they don't attract the smartest people--often solid B- or C+ students.
I spend a great deal of time maintaining old code rather than writing new--and if I do want to write new, I am confronted by a lot of old fuddy-duddies who don't understand new protocols.
You feel a sense of pride serving your country in the Air Force. It's something that you can tell your grandkids about and soemthing to look back on with a sense of accomplishment. It's also an amazing place to set yourself up for success, whether in the Air Force as a career or somewhere else in corporate America.
Cons
The political red tape and bureaucracy that can come with the job. The current deployment rate also.
