Pros

Very Rewarding feeling as you are serving something greater than yourself. Good benefits and pay, unique experience unattainable any other way.

Cons

Long Hours, Deployment (being away from family), little say in your location, promotions are not merit based, property accountability can be nerve wreaking.

Pros

Unbeatable benefits within the military. If you have a pulse and show up to work each day, you will continue to get paid. Numerous levels of subordinate leaders ensure that tasks are completed.

Cons

The same thing that make great pros also make great negatives. Those that are retired on active duty will make your life hell because they know they just have to show up to get paid. Also, the many levels of subordinate leaders generate significant inefficiencies.

Pros

Clear career trajectory, numerous potential work locations, high variety of potential assignments, opportunity to play with extremely "cool" military hardware, practical leadership experience extremely early in a career, consistent responsibility.

Cons

Little ability to impact where/when you'll be reassigned (i.e. Needs of the Army), Narrow minded culture that can be intolerant of other cultures/lifestyles (extreme homophobia, referring to Iraqis as "Hajji"), Low average level of education, Leadership at all levels is rather hit or miss and the system does not aggressively weed out low performers.
