Pros
It is possible to get interesting training, including weapons training. Large non-taxable income from housing allowance, food, etc. The Army is a respectable profession. And oddly, being deployed is an extremely satisfying time, it's not all doom and gloom.
Cons
Long hours. 0545-2000 days are pretty standard, plus field exercises that take place every 3-4 months for 3-4 weeks at a time working all day. And deployments which have lasted 12-15 months, but which now are down to 9 months. Micromanagement is rampant in the Army as a whole, and crushes individual creativity and motivation.
