Pros

Great benefits. The people here are some of the nicest you'll ever meet. Salary is competitive with the private sector. The work life balance is also good.

Cons

Depends on the division, but you don't have the autonomy to do what you think is best in your job. Micromanaging can be overbearing. There can be long stretches in the job where you don't do anything. Have to wait for approval on nearly everything you do.

Pros

Active Duty benefits are free healthcare for all necessary services (prescriptions, surgeries, illness, ER, dental, vision, etc.) and many elective medical services (LASIK, dental braces, etc.). Benefits as a veteran includes heavily subsidized and-up-to free education for you, your spouse, and children at the federal and state levels.

Cons

WLB can be horrible in stretches, even outside of deployments. Supervisors/Superiors' quality range so widely that your annual reviews can make or break your entire career. Sup's rating "profile" is bad system.
