Pros
Benefits, feeling of an important mission, job security, potential mobility between career and geographic areas, retirement benefits and, recently, some increased flexibility with flex-place and family leave kinds of arrangements.
Cons
Very dysfunctional computer systems (many separate, disconnected systems) that have not been well designed or maintained. Employees are continually pressured to develop "work arounds" to save Management from the admittedly difficult task of dealing directly with the real problems. Increasingly, there are racial conflicts within the workforce.
