Pros

Service to Country. It's not an easy job, but nothing worthwhile ever is. Obviously the benefits are great, but the real reason to serve in the Marine Corps is to be around great Americans making sacrifices for their country.

Cons

Time away from family is tough, but ask yourself this, "if not you, than who?" Someone has to do it, and I'm proud to have been a Marine.

Pros

a chance to lead the nation's finest, challenging, rewarding, sense of belonging, sense of accomplishment, service to the nation, leadership training, leadership opportunities, job security, potential for advancement, personal and professional growth, mentorship, competitive pay, brotherhood, camaraderie, teamwork, physical and mental challenges, diverse assignments, professional military education, quality medical and dental care, excellent benefits One can expect dramatic personal and professional growth in the Marine Corps that will last a lifetime and set you apart from other people.

Cons

rapid deployment cycle hard on marriages and family, high operational tempo means even when you're home you're training a lot, long hours, high stress working conditions, taskers that have nothing to do with your job, manpower shortages seem constant, some individuals attach their ego and identity to their rank
