Pros

As a federal civil service employee, I work with people who are sincerely interested and committed to doing the best job they can. Everyone contributes to team goals in a challenging work environment

Cons

Workforce development for federal civilians is marginal compared to active duty military personnel. Training tracks and required courses are well developed in the military, but for the most part civilian training and requirements for development are pretty much non-standard and ad-hoc.

Pros

Pay and time off, while on shore duty. Health and retirement timeframe is very good compared to other similar businesses.

Cons

Having to take a sea or overseas billet for an extended period of time. Often up to five years, depending on the billet.
