Pros

Benefits start from the first day. You never have to worry about "what to wear". Job Security. Education benefits are amazing. 100 per cent tuition assistance.

Cons

Uniforms. Can not plan a personal life more than a day in advance. You have no control over your life. While Ed benefits are great, you never have enough time to actually take classes. Talking to "management" is a fruitless task. In other words what you say to them doesn't matter. And don't bother making a decision, because they will just make their own, expect you to accomplish their decision, penalize you when you can't get it done and then ask when you will make a decision. The "managers" don't actually have to know how to do the job of the people they try to manage in order to be put in the position they are, just by their position only.

Pros

If you are strong willed and can manage to be away from home from time to time, the navy is an excellent choice. if you are smart and save, you can be financially secure since day one. Over the course of a 20 year career, if you save as you should and retire with a 20 year pension, your post navy life should be free of any money challenges. Once I leave the navy, i do not plan on working for anyone ever again. Becoming a naval officer was the best decision i have ever made...ever. Retirement is unbeatable...period

Cons

Deployment can ware you down if you are not strong. Time away from family is hard. However, all jobs have there downsides. .

Pros

You are on the pointy end of the stick defending the US and its intrests. You work with great people and it is an adventure. (really I am telling the truth!)

Cons

Long Long Long hours! 6 to 12 to 15 month deployments.... Danger and sometimes fear. (But hey that is the adventure!) Then the fact that you have to be an officer or involved in nuclear power to make big money, Most Junior Officers and senior enlisted do not understand respect but often preach it. Think of it like this... every one is required to do Physical Training, the middle and junior ranks are tracked on completion, but if you are senior enlisted or an officer you can not go /do it and get away with it. plus they are the ones to write the review so they are great at it even though they fail to met the standard.
