      Pros

      Interesting work with the potential to live and work at U.S. Embassies in foreign countries. For the most part, the U.S. Navy has a very system for advancement. Adequate to above average compensation. Outstanding job stability. Above average medical benefits.

      Cons

      As a Navy Foreign Area Officer, your choice of duty assignments can be somewhat limited. Also, most assignments do not take a working spouse into consideration. Assignments can be hard on a family, especially if not all family members enjoy the adventure of living abroad. That being said many families and officers do enjoy the expatriate lifestyle.

      Constantly changing environment and leadership training. Ability to receive assistance with educational costs. Service to your country and a chance to see the world...the good and the bad.

      Cons

      Careers become harder to manage once you have a family. Deployments, deployments, deployments = high divorce rate et cetera.
