Pros

Good benefits if/when you become a regular employee (have your own route).

Cons

Very heavy package load because of USPS's deal with Amazon. If you are a sub carrier (RCA/CCA), then expect to be worked 10+ hour days, 7 days a week. Many of the regular carriers I know had to wait 5-10 years at least to get their own routes (on the rural side, city is different). Time spent as a sub does not count towards retirement. Routes are evaluated, meaning you only get paid for evaluated hours on a route, not actual hours worked. So, you could finish your route and then be made to cover 1/2 or more of another route when you get back to office and not get paid for it. Continually short-staffed. Management just sees bodies. Union reps' hands are tied on many issues that directly affect the welfare of employees, rendering them useless. Example: Working 6 days a week as a sub and then having to work Amazon Sunday. Rep could not do anything about it because Amazon Sunday is mandatory. Basically, some subs only get 1 or 2 days off a month, if that, depending on the office they work at. Also, Covid restrictions were not enforced- employees were not informed if an employee they worked with tested positive for Covid. Mask mandates weren't enforced. Equipment not disinfected. Bottom line: If you want a home life and don't want to be worked 60+ hours a week, then I would not recommend it.

Most Difficult Job

Pros

This is the most difficult job in the Post Office and everyone above you knows that. This is why they hide in their offices, send emails all day, and never make any physical appearances. They refuse to return to the field. They have made it out of hell. You are in purgatory, sometimes and somehow allied with carriers or even the Union at times, sometimes allied with your fellow supervisors or more frequently, being stabbed in the back by them, and always being crushed from the pressure of those above you who bombard your Outlook with endless and infinite emails, surveys, and telecoms that are inane, boring, and pointless. You will be endlessly nagged and criticized and hated by those below you. The gossip is juicer, worse, and faker than what it was in High School. It is enough to drive the most patient and angelic to the brink of insanity. All of these factors combined with being chronically understaffed in all crafts, almost every employee and EAS pulling some Covid related quarantine stunt or having legitimate sickness, vehicles that CONSTANTLY break down (at least once or twice a week, usually more), motor vehicle and industrial accidents, and the annoyance of a Union that kills productivity and makes it extremely difficult for the removal of worthless, lazy employees, means your life will be an extremely stressful hell that will either crush your soul, turn you into a Machiavellian monster who will be the next tyrannical all star Postmaster, or have you calling OSHA, filing EEOs, and hiring attorneys just to get some room to breathe. The expectations are ungodly, the work hours are unimaginable, and the responsibility is huge.

Cons

You will sell your soul or move on

Pros

There aren’t many I can list on here because I was in the wrong state with unprofessional managers.

Cons

There I really isn’t any overtime that is allowed at USPS except during holidays. Employees are deducted 30 minutes from lunch breaks , but never get the opportunity to eat. I would definitely say in Louisiana it’s unprofessional management and lack of teamwork.
