Pros

It's a great salary with great benefits for those without education, work isn't hard, unions are there to support you. There is also opportunity to move up, but you have to play your cards right and make friends with the right people. There is also a lot of overtime opportunities at most branches and processing plants.

Cons

Employees are miserable, unions can be tricky and political, supervision cares more about getting the work done than employee satisfaction, can be a stressful work environment. Many employees who I worked with felt stuck. Benefits and salary are great for work you do, but most of the employees are old and mean. Before being hired full time, you can be jerked around positions and locations. A lot of people with families struggle the first few years before being converted to a full time regular employee with full benefits and job security.

Pros

Benefits and plenty of non negotiable overtime. Government job. It’s a 6 day work week, and you’re getting overnight shift, without question, until you have some serious tenure under your belt. Vacation time off is 4weeks per year. Paid. 401k, retirement pay after 10 years. Union. Cola raises. Discounts at companies. Benefits and plenty of non negotiable overtime. Government job. Cons

Starting pay is low. Monotony was the obvious con. Frankly, my perspective with my tenure is all memories of an almost agonizing, mentally taxing work environment & sleep/wake patterns. Basically, the fluorescent lights, extraordinarily long walks which are necessary for breaks (15min STRICTLY ENFORCED), the grueling willpower it took just to show up... punch in and follow 123 abc, then clock out, DREADING returning the next day, and having every holiday taken away just became too much for a person without a family to support. It’s a 6 day work week, and you’re getting overnights without question. Getting enough sleep seemed futile, yet eluded me
