Pros

Good benefits and a very secure job.

Cons

A whole lot of lazy people. No justification for people to work hard. Do the bare minimum mindset. Management will take advantage of their good employees or they will have the mindset of doing bare minimum as well.

Pros

Not great, but not a terrible wage. Meeting & serving people is the best part of the job. If you are in the right post office (like Astoria, OR, for me), you'll be laughing all morning while casing mail. Helps to have co-workers who are so fun & nice. Good postmasters can make your work life very pleasant. Room for promotions if you want to go that route.

Cons

If you end up in the wrong office (Rainier, OR, for me), you'll wish you'd stayed where you were! Bad co-workers are gossipy & back-stabbing. Bad postmasters will make you just wanna quit. The disparity between their methods of deciding pay for rural carriers & reality is abysmal. If you're ever legitimately injured on the job, a bad postmaster will join with OWCP (Fed Workers' Comp under FECA & the Dept. of Labor) to make you wish you'd just gone ahead & died. In fact, I've heard of plenty who ended up committing suicide b/c of how badly OWCP messed up their claims. Being in terrible pain & being harassed at the same time (for something that wasn't your fault!) don't exactly go together well at all.

Pros

The pay was great, all the overtime you could ever want and more when you're a PTF. Great benefits.

Cons

Horrible work/life balance. Management overworks you.
