Pros

It is almost impossible to get fired from the US Postal Service unless you fight, steal, or fail to show up. All that is required is four good clock rings per day.

Cons

Management is full of blatantly incompetent, direspectful fools. Promotions are handled by union rules, not merit, which is a disgrace to the employees who do work hard. Laziness is tolerated, mediocrity is celebrated, and hard work is scorned. There is no respect and dignity for the hourly workforce, and managers give no recognition for hard work. I cannot wait to quit working there and find another job where I can be treated with dignity.

Pros

Unionized, retirement, holiday pay, annual, sick leave, pay when career, overtime pay, regular raises, healthcare benefits, some independent working conditions but that has declined drastically with the GPS monitoring and upper management scrutiny, availability to climb company ladder

Cons

Micromanagement, no work/life balance, understaffed, low starting wages, inconsistent practices, overworked, treated like a robot or number not a human being, inconsistent disciplinary actions, inconsistent working policies, promotes “safety” and doesn’t provide “safe” vehicles (LLV) extensively difficult/time consuming vetting and/or training process, bi-weekly pay system that has had multiple failures in last yr, no flexibility with schedule aside from being forced to work more, unreasonable and unrealistic work loads, inconsistent end times, not a job for someone who’s not a workaholic or has small children/family/wants to go to school/wants to work part-time or casual, although many starting positions are advertised as being PT or casual.

Pros

It pays pretty well, with the current pay being $17.95 an hour. After 40 hours, its time and a half. After, I believe, 56-58 hours, it is double time. If you're looking for work and decent pay, this is the place. Maybe you'll even go on to be a regular one day, which is a step up from a PSE because you become a career employee. In that case, you gain certain rights and benefits previously not present to you. It'll usually take a few years though. There is no interview. They will hire anyone with a pulse and your coworkers will reflect that. You can go on to be a regular one day, which is a step up from a PSE because you become a career employee. Cons

If you're in college or have other concrete obligations that need to be accommodated for, than this job is not for you. Management only cares about one thing, that's the mail. They don't care about the time that you were supposed to go on break or how you feel. Management will not hesitate to abuse you and violate some of your rights, so speak to the appropriate union that you are in, You will be mandated overtime during busy times; you will be sent home early during low-volume times. You will be sent all over the place and the hours that you come in and your days off will change at the will of the supervisor or anyone that is in management. Pretty much, your life is the USPS. You will do as they say, when they say it. They will expect your life to revolve around the facility. This is a harsh, robotic environment. If you're looking for a place that makes you feel like you're making a difference, values their employees, and is overall just a great work environment, this isn't it.
