Pros

Health insurance Pension and retirement plans Typically work alone Overtime benefits Strong Union support Amazing, helpful and determined crew members Once you’re hired and pass the 90 day probation you can easily work for USPS until you retire You can transfer to different work types if what you started with didn’t work out Everyone loves getting their mail all customers and residents are polite and respect what you do

Cons

USPS cut the base wage pay for mail carriers in 2013 from starting at $30 an hour to $20. This was due to the recession and USPS made cuts to new employees. Even over time new hires will never make the wages that the older model has. I’ve never worked so hard for such a small paycheck.~$1800. In such a short period of time, 4 months, and hurt my body so much. It’s not worth the pay for all the body pain. You can only make more by overtime, so 12 hour days 6-10 days in a row. First 6 months to 2 years is mandatory overtime. No schedule. You report to the station every day. One day off every 1-2 weeks. Absolutely brutal work conditions you will need the good health insurance they provide because your body will need it.
