Pros

The job is secure unless you steal something, or have an accident.

Cons

Considering the fact that clerks and carriers are being pushed harder every day, the chance of having accidents is increasing. Those jobs is physical and tiring. Management consists of basically uneducated former craft workers who just want a break from the physicality. And then , of course, there is the weather. Lately there seems to be an increase in violence and threats towards letter carriers. Even if you sign the list that exempts you from working overtime, you may still be required to do so. This makes it very difficult to go to school , or make commitments to your children or significant others

The lower on the totem pole the less you are appreciated as an employee.

Pros

If you start at a young enough age, and can stick with it, has very good benefits including retirement. Thanks to the four major labor unions the USPS has not been able to cut pay and benefits for blue collar workers like it would like to.

Cons

You would be working for a company that has little or no respect for the people that actually do the work. Management's top priority is productivity. While this should not be unexpected in a service that handles millions of pieces of mail and parcels daily, service is their business. If it is part of your work ethic to provide good service to each and every customer you come in contact with be prepared to have a stressful career, management discourages this. Managers are rewarded for productivity with pay incentives. Most managers lack communication skills and have no knowledge of how to motivate people. Their only tool meet goals set by middle and upper management is intimidation. Upward mobility is limited to those who will work in a management training process known as the 204b program. One who commits to this program must be willing to work in an immediate supervisor position, on and off and day to day, at the bequest of their postmaster. It is not uncommon for one to be a 204b for five or ten years as others with much less training, and even to the point of not being fully qualified, pass them by. The only friends I could recommend this employer to are those that would be content with serving their entire career as a letter carrier or a clerk.

Pros

Fellow employees are pleasant to work with, Overtime after 8 hours a day OR 40 hours a week. Double time after 10 hours a day, night pay variable after 6pm. 60 hour a week limit

Cons

Significant pay cut from a mandatory position change from TE to CCA, Management will talk to you daily if you are 5 minutes over their projected route completion time, work 6 days a week, not being able to take days off for vacations even though you have plenty of PTO, The schedule changes daily so you can not plan out your week because the schedule can and will change at a moments notice, working outside in extreme weather and unsafe conditions
