14 year rural carrier veteran, love my job, customers, most co-workers, management is horrible
Pros
Good pay, health benefits after you go full time in the rural craft which could take many, many years. Life Insurance. Customers are outstanding & most of my co-workers are awesome. I enjoy serving and visiting my customers/friends.
Cons
Management is HORRIBLE! They treat you like dirt, lie to you, and are a bunch of hypocrites, and most have never carried mail but try to tell you how to do your job. They sit on their butts all day and talk on their phones. They treat their best workers like dirt, don't follow the union contract, and cause more drama and problems than anyone else does. And most offices are like this. Some even run it like a military boot camp, make up their rules as they go along, and play favoritism and cronyism. To get anywhere you have to kiss butt and sell your soul basically. You have to pay for part of your health benefits, vision & dental you pay 100% of, no paying into tsp retirement until you are full time. In the rural craft it can take many, many years to go full time (average wait is 6 years). The hard workers get rewarded by getting to do extra work while the lazy slackers get to take their time & get help. There is not much fairness or equality in the Post Office!
