Pros

The benefits are fantastic!! There are opportunities to work anywhere in the United States. They are tied to a labor contract and employees have union representation and protection. Thirteen days of sick leave annually which carries over year to year. Paid time and half after eight hours a day and double time after ten hours. One of the few companies that still offer a pension. Low cost health insurance for my family. Great vacation time up to five weeks after 15 years.

Cons

Delivery of mail is the most important mission...however, because of the liberal sick leave some employees take advantage leaving fewer people to pick up the slack. Management is very unrealistic about expectations. Typically a six day work week.

Pros

Great benefits and chances of being downsized are fairly low. Often times, cross training is available when there are vacant positions or if an employee is out on long term leave. One can obtain a "detail" or temporary assignment into the vacant position to "try it on for size." This is a low risk but great way to see if the position fits your skill set or not. Management will sometimes place someone into a detail assignment to see if a potential candidate is suitable for the job or not.

Cons

lower salary (IT) than compared to industry; some promotions into management positions seem questionable; technical training is often inadequate for the job; too much red tape

Pros

10 paid holidays per year, 5 weeks vacation a year, 13 paid sick days per year which can be carried over to following year and accumulated. Also vacation time as well can be carried over and accumulated up to 440 hours per year. No limit on sick hours carried over. High starting pay. Has a Thirft savings plan (like a 401K). Gets more time off than any other company. Pays better than minium wage for unskilled labor.

Cons

It is a no frills job, no parties or picinics. Management treats employees poorly, plays favorites right in front of you, promotes only thier friends or family, claims to have laws againts descrimination, but does not go by them. Never rewards employees for good performance, the benefits are overated. There is no longer Civil Service Retirement, (ended over20 years ago) only social security and the Thrift Savings which is voluntary. No dental or vision insurance. Bad working conditions, no air-conditioning in vehicles or radio. Every day there is a argument with management about your time. They NEVER trust their employees. Once you capp out in pay it never goes up
