Pros

As Quasi- Government Employees have some degree of security from lay-off. Pay is just below prevailing wages with better than average benefits. Work load is not excessive and working hours are good. Veterans are still preferred employees.

Cons

USPS seeks to follow other government agencies and move to out sourcing many jobs. Hiring is nearly frozen as this happens. Cost of out sourcing is threatening the future of the Postal Service. Most good jobs won't be around in ten years, contractors want the easy money.

It didn't have to be this way.

Pros

I'm one of the lucky ones. There are a few good positions and I fell into one.

Cons

It's hard to fly like an eagle when you are surrounded by turkeys. I attribute the Spirit of Despotism, a rank poisonous weed, which grows and flourishes even in the soil of liberty, when over-run with corruption.

Pros

Good pay and benefits for the skills required to do the job. Very secure. Six years of service and you basically have a job for life as long as you show up and do your job.

Cons

Management makes no effort to encourage input from workforce to improve efficiency or service. Often seems like a deadend job requiring zero creativity or really any thought at all, nor is any wanted from management. Communication is often via intimidation. A real military-like, ask no questions relationship is propagated by management. Do as your told, even if there might be a better, more efficient, common-sense approach.
